Wild Arts Weekend

Join us for a weekend of animal-inspired visual and performing arts. Brooklyn-based dancers and painters will set up shop throughout the Zoo to perform and showcase their work. Kids can get their faces painted, and let their own creative juices flow with fun crafts activities.

Schedule of Activities


Dance
The Philippa Kaye Company will dazzle you with “Humorphous,” an animal-inspired interpretive dance that takes place throughout the Zoo.
Time: 11:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
 
Painting
Members of the Brooklyn Watercolor Society will bring out their easels and brushes to paint pictures of baboons, sea lions, and other inspiring animals.
Time: 10:00 a.m.–noon

Art Exhibit
Visit our Animals in Art Gallery to see Prospect Park Zoo-inspired illustrations by students from the Pratt Institute. Works will be on display through September 1.

Crafts Activities
Kids can create an animal-themed paper bag puppet using feathers, fur, and other fun materials. Additional crafts include animal track printing.
Schedule: Puppet-making 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. at Animals in Art; Animal-track printing 1:00–4:00 p.m. at the Barn

Live Animal Encounters
Join keepers and volunteers at the Discovery Theater or Barn Stage to meet the coolest creatures in Brooklyn.
(Times and featured animals will be posted at zoo entrances all weekend.)
 
Face-Painting
Head to the Sea Lion Court to have your face painted to look like a zoo animal!
Time: Noon–3:00 p.m. (Line closes at 2:30 p.m.)

Puppet Shows
Drama of Works KIDS presents their new puppet show at the Barn stage: “Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ears!”
Time: Noon

Discovery Center
The interactive Discovery Center, which features books, games, and a variety of animal-themed activities will be open 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
